Compared with other permanent magnet materials, samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets boast outstanding magnetic properties, featuring ultra-high Curie temperature, excellent coercivity, and remarkable temperature stability.
They also exhibit strong corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength, maintaining stable performance even under harsh environmental conditions.
These exceptional characteristics make samarium cobalt permanent magnets widely applied in high-end industrial equipment and aerospace technologies.
Typical applications include high-temperature motors, sensors, traveling wave tubes, aerospace instruments, and magnetic drive devices, and more.

SmCo5 alloy belongs to the first-generation samarium cobalt magnets, mainly composed of samarium and cobalt without iron.
Compared with 2:17 type SmCo magnets, 1:5 type SmCo features better corrosion resistance and demagnetization resistance.
2:17 type samarium cobalt (Sm₂Co₁₇) offers higher magnetic properties than SmCo₅, containing small amounts of other elements such as iron and copper.
The presence of iron may cause slight corrosion in high-humidity environments, so surface coatings like Ni or Epoxy plating are commonly applied to Sm₂Co₁₇ magnets.
Processing Technologies We Provide:
Mechanical Processing
After sintering, SmCo magnets undergo grinding, cutting and other mechanical processing.
We are equipped with various grinders, slicers and multi-wire cutting machines, enabling precise machining to meet your final shape and tolerance requirements.
EDM Machining
EDM is ideal for processing hard SmCo magnets, allowing complex cutting and shaping with minimal mechanical stress, thus reducing the risk of cracking. We own high-speed and medium-speed wire-cut EDM machines to support profile cutting of SmCo materials.
Laser Cutting
Laser cutting is suitable for ultra-thin parts (≤3mm) requiring complex shapes, with high precision and minimal material waste. However, it may not be feasible for thick products and can cause thermal damage to the edges.
Special Profile Grinding
With custom grinding wheels and fixtures, we perform precision grinding on magnet surfaces to achieve high surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
Drilling
Due to SmCo’s high hardness and brittleness, drilling requires specialized diamond tools and custom fixtures, and is only feasible for small-diameter holes (≤3mm) to avoid chipping.
Custom Shapes
We can produce SmCo magnets into various special shapes, including rings, flats, embedded designs and more.
Sintered SmCo magnets have excellent natural corrosion resistance, far better than NdFeB.
No coating is required for most applications.
Optional coatings (Ni, epoxy) are available for extreme humidity or acidic environments.
Extremely stable. They have negligible demagnetization over decades under normal conditions, with consistent performance across temperature fluctuations.
Widely used in aerospace, defense, medical devices, high-temperature motors, sensors, and oil/gas equipment requiring reliable performance in harsh environments.
