  • Why Are Small Irregular Magnets So Expensive

Many customers wonder why smaller magnets are sold at a higher unit price, and special-shaped magnets are even more expensive than standard square or round ones.Irregular magnets such as heart-shaped, triangular, concave and convex styles cannot be produced by regular molding, and require dedicated custom processing methods.

The first common method is profile grinding. For triangular magnets, edges need trimming and shaping to form special outlines with professional grinding equipment.

The second method is laser cutting, suitable for flat irregular magnets. It can process heart shapes, letters and various complex custom contours, though it only works for flat magnet designs.

The third is lathe machining, mainly used for magnets with raised platforms and concave-convex structures. Each piece has to be processed individually, making the machining cost much higher than the raw material cost.

Another key reason for the high price is heavy material waste. Small magnets are cut from large raw blanks, with only a small portion turned into finished products and most wasted during production. Factories have to cover the full raw material and processing cost, so small and special-shaped magnets are naturally priced higher.

The smaller the magnet size, the higher the requirements for machining precision, tolerance control and performance stability. Poor precision control easily leads to inconsistent magnetic strength within the same batch, which places high demands on production quality control.

Most micro special-shaped magnets are applied in compact and precision scenarios, requiring high magnetic flux density and stable performance under limited installation space.

In short, small special-shaped magnets come with higher production difficulty, larger material waste and stricter technical requirements, which directly lead to higher overall costs.

Equipped with internal circular slicing machines, multi-wire cutting machines and laser cutting machines, we have ten years of experience in custom special-shaped magnets. We provide professional customization for all kinds of small-size and complex irregular NdFeB magnets with mature craftsmanship and stable quality.
